I had wireless 3 years ago while waiting for ADSL to be connected, was fast but data was very "packety" haha pretty sure that's not even a word. But basically got reasonable pings and a high max download and upload but came in bursts, so playing games would suffer greatly from rubber banding, and would get kicked for the odd high ping as sometimes would be quarter second between bursts and other times would be a few seconds of rubber banding before data would send/receive again.
I couldn't do it here, but there would be loads of factors attributing to a wireless connection like distance from tower, relative line of sight, interference, congestion, the weather etc. Hope it works better for you than it did for me!
Also on that not my neighbor plays xbox live no worries on wireless and gets a way more stable connection than I ever did.
